Omot Named MASCAC Player of the Week

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore swingman Juju Omot (Springfield, Mass./Central) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball player of the week on Monday.

Its the second time Omot has earned the weekly honor this season.

On Saturday, Omot scored 25 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Owls to a 99-86 win over MCLA.  He added 19 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots as Westfield blitzed Framingham State, 116-79 in the conference opener on Wednesday.

Omot's play has been one key in the Owls winning six straight games.  Westfield is now 11-4 overall and 2-0 in the MASCAC.

Omot shares the team lead in scoring at 14.5 points per game, and is shooting 47 percent from the floor and 42 percent from beyond the three-point arc.  He's adding 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per outing as well.

Westfield, picked second in the league's preseason poll, will get an early matchup with Worcester State, the defending league champs and the #1 team in the preseason ranking, on Wednesday when the Owls travel to the Brissette Court for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the Lancers.  Live video and stats of the game will be available at WestfieldStateOwls.com
