Westfield State Basketball takes on Bridgewater in Important Conference Matchups

Westfield, Mass. -- Westfield State men's and women's basketball will take on Bridgewater State in a pair of key conference games in Westfield this Saturday, February 2nd. The men's game will top off at 12:00 noon, while the women's game tips off at 2.00 p.m.

The Owl men come into this game trying to snap a four game losing streak, and sits at 10-10 overall on the season. The Bridgewater State Bears are 6-13 this season, but are winners of their last four. Bridgewater is currently second in the conference with a 4-3 record, Westfield State is just a game back at 3-4 despite being in 6th overall. 

Last time these two teams met on January 12th, the Owls left with an 86-73 win, led by junior forward Jauch Green Jr. (Hartford, Conn) who finished with a game high 29 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. Green has been a force for Westfield all season long, averaging 23.5 points per game to go along with 10.1 rebounds.  Westfield sophomore Christopher Prophet (Springfield, Mass.) also had a strong game last time these teams met, posting 18 points and five rebounds off the bench.

 Bridgewater is led by junior Rayshon Ward (Fayetteville, NC), who is averaging 15.9 points and 10.5 rebounds per game on the season.

 The Westfield State women come into this game at 12-8 overall on the season, having won eight of their last nine games. Bridgewater sits at 9-11 on the season, and have won two straight. Westfield is currently in second place in the conference with 6-1 record, and just a ½ game back of first place in the win column, while Bridgewater is in fourth, with a record of 4-3.

 The Owls are led by the senior trio of Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.), guard Allison Hester (Sutton, Mass.) and guard/forward Kierra McCarthy (Ludlow, Mass.) Barrett in particular has had a very strong season, averaging 19.1 points per game to go along with 5.3 rebounds. Last time Westfield and Bridgewater met on January 12th, the Owls picked up a 77-68 win, with Barrett dropping 24 points.

 Bridgewater State's Olivia DelGrosso (Ledyard, CT)  has had a solid senior season for the Bears, averaging 11.5 points and 2.6 rebounds per game.
