WESTFIELD, Mass. – Four players scored in double figures, led by newcomer Christopher Prophet's (Central/Springfield, Mass.) 17, as Westfield State rolled to a 104-63 win over Lesley University in the Owls home-opener at Woodward Center on Wednesday night.
Westfield led 48-23 at the half behind 64 percent (20-31) shooting from the floor and 11 points in the opening stanza from Marcus Collins (Rindge and Latin/Cambridge, Mass.).
Prophet shot 7-10 from the floor on the night and made five steals.
Collins added 15 points and four blocks for the Owls, while Moody Bey (Monson/Springfield, Mass.) and Ke Vawn Lord (West Springfield HS/Amherst, Mass.) added 12 each. Lord grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Sophomore forward Chase Howard (Del Norte/San Diego, Calif.) led the Lynx with 23 points, with Joey Martin (Central/Melbourne, Fla.) adding 21 points and seven rebounds.
Westfield State improves to 1-0 on the season. The Owls will host the Rick Martin – Holiday Inn Express Tournament on Friday and Saturday, meeting Clarkson University in the opener at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Lesley falls to 0-2 on the year. The Lynx will travel to Emerson for a 7:00 p.m. start tomorrow evening.
