Moody, Owls, Slam Rams 81-50

Framingham, Mass. - The Westfield State University men's basketball team saw three players record double figures as the Owls defeated host Framingham State University 81-50 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center.

With the win, the Owls improve to 10-12 on the year and are now 4-5 in the league, while the Rams slip to 6-17 overall and are now 2-8 in the MASCAC.

Sophomore Moody Bey (Springfield, Mass.) paced the Owls offense with 17 points on six-of-12 shooting from the floor to go along with five rebounds and three steals. Junior Marcus Collins (Cambridge, Mass.) recorded a double double with 16 points and a team-best 11 boards, while senior Allister Williams (Boston, Mass.) added 16 points off the bench on five-of-six from the floor including three-of-three from behind the arc.

The Rams were led offensively by 13 points from senior Ben Roache (Dighton, Mass.). Roache connected on two-of-five from the floor and was eight-for-eight from the free throw line. Junior Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added 11 points with two steals and two blocks. Sophomore Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and four rebounds.

The Rams trailed 6-2 in the opening minutes, but used a 10-2 run capped by a three point play from freshman Cameren McCloud-Thomas (Springfield, Mass.) to take a four point lead. A three pointer by senior Kenny Seitz (Milford, Mass.) put the Rams up 17-13 midway through the quarter. The Owls would follow with a 12-0 featuring five points by Bey over the next six minutes to take the lead for good, 25-17.

The Owls led 39-23 at the half and extended the lead to as many as 37 in the second half before securing the victory 81-50.

Both teams resume MASCAC action on Saturday afternoon with the Rams hosting to Bridgewater State at 1 p.m. and the Owls hosting Salem State also at 1 p.m.
