Collins Named MASCAC Player of the Week

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State junior forward Marcus Collins (Cambridge Rindge and Latin/Cambridge, Mass.) has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for January 29.

Collins capped a monster week with a career-high 28-point performance in the Owls 97-75 win over MCLA on Saturday. Collins shot 12-16 from the floor, grabbed eight rebounds and handed out six assists in the win.

Earlier in the week he grabbed 22 rebounds in the Owls' loss to Worcester State. The 22 rebounds is the third-best single game total in NCAA Division III this season, and six shy of the Owls' school record.

In the Owls third game of the week, he scored 23 points and grabbed five rebounds in a loss at Fitchburg State.

For the week, he Averaged 19.7 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 55% (23-42) from the floor.

Overall this season, Collins leads the Owls with a 14.8 ppg scoring average and 9.4 rebounds per game, and has blocked a team-high 23 shots.

Westfield is 9-11 overall on the season and 3-4 in the MASCAC. The Owls will next play at Bridgewater State on Saturday.
