Eleven Players Named to NFHCA National Academic Squad

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Eleven members of the Westfield State Field Hockey Team were given the honor to be named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Academic Squad.

Out of the eleven Owls chosen, there are five seniors, two juniors, three sophomores, and one first-year student. The seniors named include Molly Finnegan (Westport, Mass.), Emily Martin (Southwick, Mass.), Madison Ouellette (Uxbridge, Mass.), Morgan Wichmann (Granby, Conn.), and Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass.). The juniors are Jordan Conrad (Worcester, Mass.) and Taylor Creech (Kennebunk, Maine.). The sophomores are Kaleigh Murphy (Auburn, Mass.), Sadie Stauffer (Suffield, Conn.), and Maddy Barry (Norwood, Mass.). The only first-year chosen was Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass.).

The NFHCA celebrates the remarkable academic excellence of 1800 student-athletes representing 155 different institutions to the National Academic Squad. To qualify for this award, the athlete must obtain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year.

The Owls finished their 2023 season with an 8-2 record in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference and an overall record of 12-8, tying the season record for wins. They finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak, but then lost in the MASCAC quarterfinal to the third ranked team in the conference Framingham State 2-1 in double overtime.
