Foley Named MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior defender Bre Foley (South Hadley, Mass.) earned conference honors this past week, securing the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Owls 2-0 week against conference opponents.

Foley came up with several key defensive plays and knocked in the game-winning goal in the Owls 2-1 victory over Worcester State, handing the Lancers their first conference loss of the season. She also anchored an Owls defense that allowed just two shots (one on goal) in a 2-0 win over Fitchburg State on Friday, pushing Westfield to 5-2 in the league standings.

On the season, Foley has consistently showed her two-way versatility as she is tied for second on the team with five goals and has also tallied the second-most points (13) which is top ten in the MASCAC. Foley and the Owls defense are also allowing the fewest goals against in the league with opponents being held to 1.59 GAA per game. 

Westfield State has won six of their last seven games and will travel to Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday at 4:00 P.M.
