WESTFIELD, Mass. -  Bre Foley (S. Hadley, Mass.) and Madison Ouellette (Uxbridge, Mass.) each tallied a goal and an assist as Westfield State University field hockey sank Salem State, 5-0, in a MASCAC Conference game on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.

Westfield State improves to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the league.  The Owls have won two straight and tallied 11 goals in those two games, after being shutout for four consecutive games before then.   Salem State slips to 3-5 overall and 2-1 MASCAC.

Today, Foley got the Owls on the board first, batting in a rebound at the left post on a penalty corner 9:13 into the first quarter.

Westfield struck again 1:07 into the second quarter off some nice passing, as Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin) fed the ball ahead to Oullette, who found Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass./Oakmont) open in the middle of the scoring circle for the goal and a 2-0 lead.

Foley picked up an assist on the Owls third goal, as her initial shot was blocked, but she flipped the rebound across the mouth of the goal to Corryn Moroney (Granby, Mass./S. Hadley), who tapped it in in a scramble at the far post.

Oullette added a goal on a rebound, after a nice defensive save from Salem's Melanie Mason (Beverly, Mass.), who cleared the ball off the goal line, but couldn't get it past Oullette, who poked the rebound home for a 4-0 Owls lead in the 37th minute.

Westfield added the final goal on a give and go as Emily Martin (Southwick, Mass.) fed the ball into the circle to Skyla Harthcock (Martha's Vineyard, Mass.), who returned the pass, and Martin fired to the far sideboard from the right side for the final margin.

The Owls controlled the run of play almost all night, holding an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Paige Reisman (Milford, Mass.) made one save in 45 minutes of play for Westfield, before giving way to Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) in goal.   Morgan Wichmann (Granby, Conn.) made a defensive save early to help keep the Vikings off the scoreboard.

Izzy Mosely (Middleborough, Mass.) made five saves in goal for the Vikings.

Westfield State hits the road this weekend to face Bridgewater State in a MASCAC game on Saturdat at 4:00 p.m.
