Field Hockey Blanks Fitchburg, 6-0

Fitchburg, Mass. –  Taylor Creech (Kennebunkport,, Maine) scored one goal and assisted on another, and Paige Reisman (Milford, Mass.) and Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty) combined to pitch the shutout in goal as Westfield State field hockey blanked Fitchburg State, 6-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field.

Westfield State  is now 3-6 overall and , 1-1 MASCAC), while Fitchburg State is 1-5, 0-2 MASCAC.

Westfield broke out in the scoring column after being shut out in four straight games prior to today.

Westfield State opened the scoring at the 14:52 mark of the opening frame when freshman Ashley D'Elia (Watertown, CT) collected a feed from sophomore Sadie Stauffer (Suffield, CT) and deposited a shot into the right side of the cage for her second goal on the year to make the score 1-0.

The Owls doubled the lead (2-0) in the 17th minute of action as senior Emily Martin (Southwick, MA) found the back of the cage for her second tally on the season off an assist from junior Taylor Creech (Kennebunk, ME). The visitors pushed the advantage to 3-0 with just under five minutes remaining in the half with sophomore Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, MA) registering her fifth score of the 2023 campaign.

Following the intermission, Westfield State secured the victory with Creech and Stauffer netting goals just one minute apart, resulting in the 6-0 final.

Westfield State held a 15-10 advantage in shots.

Senior Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) stopped four shots for the Falcons and freshman Hannah Free (Cumberland, RI) added three saves for the Green and Gold in her collegiate debut.

Reisman made one save for the Owls and Gniadek two in securing the win.
