WESTFIELD, Mass. – Carly-Anna Barba's first quarter goal proved to be enough for Western New England field hockey, as the Golden Bears tacked on two more in a 3-0 win over Westfield State in a non-conference game at Golden Bear Stadium on Thursday evening.

Westfield slips to 2-6 on the season, and have hit a scoring drought of late, being shut out in four straight games after starting the season 2-2.

WNE is off to a strong start in their season with a 7-0 record.

Barba lit the lamp just 35 seconds into the contest, and the Golden Bears added an insurance goal from Haley Kaczka in the 27th minute.   Sarah Johnston's marker in the 51st minute put the game away for WNE.

Westfield got six saves in goal from Paige Reisman.  The Owls mustered just three shots on goal in the match and were out-cornered 14-4 by WNE.

The Owls get back to conference action on Saturday, with an 11:00 a.m. match at Fitchburg State.
