WESTFIELD, Mass. – Roger Williams sophomore Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead the Hawks to a 4-0 victory over Westfield State in the home opener on Tuesday night from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.

The Owls drop to 2-3 on the season while the Hawks improve to 3-1 overall.

Roger Williams opened the scoring 5:29 into regulation with King shielding the ball from an Owls defender then feeding a pass past the sliding Paige Reisman (Milford, Mass.) to the middle of the fan where Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) deposited her first goal of the season.

About four minutes later, the Hawks doubled their lead on a penalty stroke goal by Hunter Phillips (Schuylerville, N.Y.).

Roger Williams entered the second half with a 2-0 advantage and quickly added a third goal just 1:38 into the period. Off a penalty corner, King fed a pass to Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) at the top of the fan who faked a pass one way and dished to the right where Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) loaded up a shot that sailed past Liv Labrie (Southampton, Mass.) to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage.

King scored the Hawks fourth goal of the night to wrap up the scoring, corralling a pass then turning towards net to register her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Owls best scoring opportunity came in the fourth quarter on a breakout pass that led Ashley D'Elia (Watertown, Conn.) towards the net, but a sliding save by Hawks' goalkeeper Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) thwarted the opportunity.

Roger Williams controlled the possession for most of the game as the Hawks piled up a 21-5 shots advantage. Reisman (L, 0-1) and Labrie split time in net, each recording five saves on seven shots on goal. Brazil (W, 3-0) stopped both shots faced on the evening.

Westfield State will begin conference play this upcoming Friday as the Owls travel to Worcester State for the MASCAC opener and a rematch of last year's LEC quarterfinals game at 7:00 P.M. Roger Williams remains on the road in their next matchup against Wesleyan on Thursday at 6:30 P.M.
