Owls Field Hockey Rolls Past UMD, 4-1

WESTFIELD, Mass. -  Sarah Richard (Templeton, Mass./Oakmont) scored a pair of goals and Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) added a goal and an assist as Westfield State field hockey topped UMass-Dartmouth, 4-1 in a non-conference game at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday.

Westfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 3:28 into the game when Bre Foley (S. Hadley, Mass.) tallied off of a feed from Sadie Stauffer (Suffield, Conn.), and the Owls were off to the races.   Westfield scored three times in the third quarter, with Richard sandwiching her two goals around one from Murphy.

Westfield improves to 2-2 on the season, while UMD is now 1-2.

The Owls outshot the Corsairs 18-11 and had a 12-4 advantage in shots on goal.  UMD had an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.

Westfield got two saves in three quarters of play from Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass./Doherty), with Liv Labrie (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire) playing the fourth quarter and making one save.

Westfield State will play their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 12, hosting Roger Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Alumni Field.
