Katie Jones' goal late in the third period proved to be the difference as Elms College defeated Westfield State 1-0 in women's field hockey on Thursday night at Leary Feld in Chicopee.
Jones' marker ruined a night where is the Owls dominated the run of play in the game. Westfield out-shot the Elms 21 to 9, but Our Lady got 19 saves from goalkeeper Nora Newman to keep the Owls off the scoreboard. Westfield State also had a 13-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Riley Goulet stopped three shots for Westfield.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday at Southern Maine for a Little East Conference game.
