WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Senior goalkeeper Riley Goulet (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester) made four saves to earn the shutout as Westfield State got goals from four different scorers in a 4-0 field hockey win over Bridgewater State University on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield picks up its first win of the season, and is now 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference.  Bridgewater dips to 1-3 and 0-1 LEC.

Sophomore Corryn Moroney (South Hadley, Mass.)  opened the scoring for the Owls with a shot from the middle of the circle midway through the second quarter.   Westfield boosted its lead to 2-0 six minutes later when Moroney slid a pass to Kelsi McDevitt (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown), who's shot found the back of the cage.

The Owls went up 3-0 midway through the third period, taking advantage of a penalty corner as Lauren Champiney (Somers, Conn.) won the ball in a scrum in front of the goalkeeper, then pushed a shot past the keeper which was tipped in by Leah Pierce (Barnstable, Mass.).

Allie Gigure capped the scoring for the Owls, tallying off the rebound of her own shot late in the third quarter.

Goulet made three of her four saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the shutout, and also got a defensive save from Bre Foley (S. Hadley, Mass.) to keep the clean sheet.

Emily Ronan (N. Billerica, Mass./Tyngsboro) stopped six shots for Bridgewater.

Westfield State will next play on Tuesday, hosting Rivier (NH) College in a non conference game at Alumni Field at 4:00 p.m.  Bridgewater will also step out of conference to travel to Dean College on Tuesday.
