GORHAM, Maine – Senior Maggie Redman (Alfred, Maine/Massabesic) scored twice and junior Hayden Spencer (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Westfield State Owls 3-0 in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With the loss, Westfield State dips to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the LEC.
Redman scored her sixth and seventh goals of the season to lead Southern Maine, breaking open a scoreless contest in the second quarter tipping in a goal off of a direct pass from sophomore Mikayla Bourassa (West Gardiner, Maine) in the 20th minute.
USM made it 2-0 early in the second half when Redman again got her stick on the ball this time redirecting a pass from senior Dorina Sirois (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) in the 34th minute. Spencer scored the final goal of the game, and her second of the season, in the 44th minute for the 3-0 final.
Westfield State goalkeeper junior Katie Vamosi (Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) made five saves in the loss. Southern Maine sophomore Lindsay Pych (West Milford, N.J./Morristown-Beard) made two saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season.
Up next for the Owls, they travel to UMass Dartmouth for a 7:00 p.m. LEC matchup with the Corsairs
