WESTFIELD, Mass. – Morgan Matthews dished out a pair of assists to lead Western Connecticut to a 5-0 won over Westfield State University in Little Conference Field Hockey action at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.
Matthews sent a ball into the circle that Jacalyn Doerwald deflected into the net for the Colonials first goal of the day just 8:14 into the game.
Matthews added a second assist on the final goal of the match, this time firing a cross from the right side that found Melissa Krim for the goal and the 5-0 final.
Allie Noteware, Carly Matasavage and Kimberly Brower all added goals for Western Connecticut, which improved to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the LEC.
Neve Manion made six saves for the Colonials in net before giving way late to Samantha Ripegno to combine for the shutout.
West Conn out shot Westfield 18-10 and had a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Westfield State falls to 2-5 overall and 1-1 in the Little East. The Owls are back in action on Alumni Field on Wednesday, hosting Worcester State at 7:00 p.m.
