The Westfield State football team - led by the strong showings of this week's Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Cade Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and the MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week, Cooper Harvey (Niskayuna, N.Y.)  -  put up a real fight in the 26-23, overtime loss against UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, October 14.

Nelson was named the MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week after a performance that he won't soon forget. The senior defensive lineman seemed to be all over the field in Saturday's game, recording 13 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack, and a blocked extra point. Nelson has 35 total tackles and two sacks on the season.

Harvey was named the MASCAC Special Teams Player of the Week, which is his second MASCAC award of the season. The first-year kicker nailed a 35-yard field goal in overtime, along with two successful extra-point tries. He also kicked a perfectly placed on-side kick, which set up the Owls' game-tying touchdown drive in regulation. Harvey has a total of 12 points on the season, with two made field goals and six successful extra point tries.

The Owls (1-5) now look ahead to their game at Bridgewater State on Saturday, October 21 for a 4:00 P.M. start time.
