Title: Head Cheerleading Coach

Westfield State University Athletics is pleased to announce and welcome Emily Humphrey as the Owls next Head Cheerleading Coach.

“I am excited to welcome Coach Humphrey back to the Westfield State campus,” said Westfield State Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator Nancy Bals.” “She is an alum of our program and lives in the area. She has gained experience coaching at numerous high schools and we have frequently talked about her leading our program. I am glad the time is right and look forward to her impact on our program. We have a dedicated group of cheerleaders who are anxious to begin training and cheering for the Owls!”

Humphrey joins the Owls after years of coaching and personal experience in cheerleading. She was most recently the Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach at Hanover High School in Hanover, Mass. up until 2017 where her team received a bid to the State Tournament for the first time since 2007.

Prior to her time at Hanover, Humphrey was the Head Cheer Coach at Pembroke High School and Holyoke High School. At Pembroke, she assisted in restarting the program to allow for competitive meets while at Holyoke she helped develop the first coed squad in school history.

Humphrey returns to Westfield State after completing her undergraduate degree with the Owls, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and General Science in 2009. She also continued her studies at Westfield, receiving a Master of Education graduate degree in 2012. While attending Westfield State, she was a member of the cheerleading team where she was named captain of the “All girl” squad which organized tumbling classes with local gyms and Universal Cheerleading Association coaches.
