John Gegetskas ’20 enters his third season with the Owls in 2024, coaching at Westfield State after a highly decorated playing career for the Owls. The lefty ace spent four years in the Owls’ rotation, leading the way to three MASCAC regular season titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Gegetskas was an All-New England selection and the MASCAC pitcher of the Year as a junior in 2018. As a senior he was a first team MASCAC selection, threw a no-hitter in the MASCAC tournament, picked up a win in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament and was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team.

Gegetskas received the Westfield State athletic department’s Coach John Kurty Award for Contributions to Athletics. It is presented to a student-athlete who best exemplifies Coach Kurty's many outstanding qualities, including commitment, loyalty, hard work, dedication, sportsmanship, leadership and athletics ability. It is considered the highest award from the Westfield State Department of Athletics, and considers the four-year body of work and the contributions to the athletics program at Westfield State University.

Gegetskas finished his career breaking the all-time strikeout record and his own single-season strikeout record, fanning 91 batters in his final campaign to bring his career strikeout total to 267. He ended his career with a 22-8 record, three saves, and a 2.46 era over 249 innings of work.

Gegetskas is employed full time in the University’s procurement and administrative service department.
