WESTFIELD, Mass.   Westfield State sophomore starter Shane Bogli tossed a shutout and Owls' senior shortstop Colin Dunn accounted for three of the Owls four runs in the opener, as Westfield split a MASCAC baseball doubleheader with Mass Maritime.

Westfield State won game one by a 4-0 score, but dropped the nightcap 7-5.

Bogli was the story in game one, allowing just six hits and striking out five to improve to 6-1 on the season.   Westfield scored two runs in the first inning as Dunn singled home Casey Boudreau with the first run, and later came around to score on a wild pitch.

In the third, the Owls netted two more runs, as Nick Martin's fielder's choice scored Boudreau, and Dunn singled and later scored on an error.

Dunn and Boudreau accounted for all four of the Owls' hits in the game.  Brian Kwedor (2-6) took the loss for Mass Maritime.

In game 2, the Buccaneers rallied from a 4-3 deficit to gain victory.  Tied at 4-4 in the top of the fifth, Jackson Simone doubled, advanced to third on a ground out, and scored on Dylan Sullo's base hit to short to grab a 5-4 lead.

The Bucs tacked on a pair of runs in the sicth on RBI singled from Marley Dembitzki and Nick Haley to extend the lead to 7-4.

Westfield got one back in the bottom of the seventh, with Anthony Crowley plating Jared Ferrari with an RBI single, but the Owls rally died with runners on first and second to end the game.

MMA starter John Teehan worked five innings to pick up the win, while Westfield's Patrick Jordan (1-2) took the loss after working 2.2 innings in relief of Vincenzo Camera.

AJ Luciano finished with three hits in game 2 for the Buccaneer, with Simone and Dembritzki each knocking a pair of hits and an RBI apiece.  Mason Ashburn worked two innings of relief to earn a save for the Bucs.

Dunn finished with three hits for the Owls, while Crowley added a pair of hits.

Westfield State is now 19-9 overall and 11-4 in the MASCAC.   MMA is 8-21 and 5-10 in conference play.
