Beach's Blasts Power Owls Past Amcats, 14-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Senior second baseman Tyler Beach (Quincy, Mass.) powered a pair of home runs to lead Westfield State University to a 14-2 win over Anna Maria College in a non-conference baseball game at the New England Baseball complex in Northborough on Sunday.

Beach broke a 2-2 tie with a solo shot in the fifth inning that gave the Owls the lead for good.  He added a three-run blast in the seventh as the Owls put the game away with 11 runs over the last three innings of play.

Beach finished 4-6 with six RBI and three runs scored.  Colin Dunn (Westfield, Mass.) and Nick Martin (Shrewsbury) each added three hits for the Owls.

Senior John Gegetskas (1-1) (Academy of Sport Science/Windsor, Conn.) worked six innings, allowing two runs and striking out seven to pick up his first win of the season.  Vincenzo Camera (East Haven, Conn.)  and Frankie Novio (Bishop Feehan/Mansfield, Mass.) combined to provide three innings of shutout relief for Westfield.

Jack Marzac (1-2) tossed five innings and allowed three runs in taking the loss for the Amcats (8-10). 

Westfield State improves to 6-4 on the season.  The Owls are next scheduled to play on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. start time against Elms College at venerable McKenzie Stadium in Holyoke.
