Dunn Homers Twice As Owls Sink Coast Guard, 6-2

NEW LONDON, Conn. -  Colin Dunn was 3 for 4 with a pair of homers and three RBI's leading Westfield State to a 6-2 win over Coast Guard in a non-conference game to spoil the Bears home opener.

Shane Bogli (2-0) pitched eight shutout innings scattering seven hits while not walking a batter and striking out nine to pick up the win.

Coast Guard's Dustin Reeder (1-1) also went eight innings and was touched for six earned runs on six hits. He walked just one and fanned eight in taking the loss.

Dunn hit a two-run homer to left in the top of the first giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.

Jamie Butler's RBI double in the fourth pushed the lead to 3-0 before Dunn led off the sixth with a homer to left for a 4-0 lead.

The Owls would score two insurance runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Nick Martin before Jake Gibb added an RBI groundout for a 6-0 lead.

Coast Guard would get a pair of runs in the ninth as they loaded the bases thanks to an error and back-to-back hit batters before Cody Fidler delivered a two-run pinch hit single to left for the only runs of the game for the Bears.

 Martin had finished with two hits for Westfield State while Jake Behne had two hits for the Bears. Both teams are now 5-4 on the season.
