WESTFIELD, Mass. – Several Westfield State student-athletes were recently named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Sportsmanship Team for the fall 2018 season, as announced by the conference earlier today.
Football linebacker Andrew Carpenter (Auburn, Mass.), senior soccer forward Amanda Egan (Coventry, R.I.), junior women's volleyball setter Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.), junior men's soccer midfielder Nate Weaver (Westfield, Mass.), senior women's cross country runner Lauren Izabel (Enfield, Conn.), and senior men's cross country runner Patrick Brett (Hanson, Mass.) were all a part of the fall team.
Along with their well-respected behavior during competition, they put forth stellar performances as well.
Carpenter, a graduate student, was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All District team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. He helped captain the Westfield State defense to the top of the ranks in the MASCAC, finishing the year with 64 tackles, half a sack, and a fumble recovery.
Egan was part of a women's soccer team that won its second MASCAC championship in a row. She tacked on a goal in a 9-1 rout of Mass. Maritime earlier this season.
Rega was a cornerstone of the women's volleyball team, helping lead the Owls all the way to the MASCAC championship match. As the Owls primary setter, she led the team with 610 assists, was third in the conference in assists per set at 7.09, and added 208 digs in the process.
Weaver was an integral part to the men's soccer team's success this season, starting 12 of the Owls 15 games this season in the midfield and appearing in 13 of them.
Izabel finished 19th in this year's MASCAC women's cross country championships, while placing 22nd in the Owls' meet at Trinity College earlier this season.
Brett finished 13th at this year's MASCAC men's cross country championships and 28th at the Owls' James Earley Invitational.
