Alzheimers' Awareness

Westfield State Owl with Alzheimers' Ribbon logo

For the past three years, Westfield State University student athletes have adopted Alheimer's Awareness as a cause to champion.

The cause is close to the hearts of those in our Athletics Department and Westfield State community.  We have been working to raise money through Alzheimer’s Awareness games and participate regularly in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  In 2018 the Owls' team through the Alzheimer’s Awareness Association – Westfield State Owls – raised more than $5,000

The Owls plan to participate in the local Walk to End Alzheimers, scheduled for Sept. 27, 2020 in Holyoke, Mass.

If you would like to make a donation to the – Westfield State Owls –
team page, feel free to donate today in person or on our team page at:

WWW.ALZ.ORG – DONATE – FIND TEAM – Search: Westfield State Owls    (Direct Link)

You will see student athletes wearing purple accessories or tape at events specially designated as Alzheimers' Awareness games, and members of SAAC will take donations in support of our Alzheimers' Awareness efforts.

Associate AD Nancy Bals met with Bianca Walker from the Alzheimer's Association to present gifts to help fight Alzheimers'.

Since the Alzheimer’s Association was formed in 1980 they have been advocating for research advancements to end Alzheimer’s and for the enhancement of care for those living with the disease.  Currently, 5.7 million people are living with Alzheimer’s – the 6th leading cause of death in the United States.
